AUSTRALIA’S 2022 almond harvest remains on track to break all records, despite its expected size being revised downwards last week.
The Almond Board of Australia (ABA) revised the crop size down from 145,000 tonnes of saleable product to 138,650 tonnes of saleable product.
Ongoing challenges with wet weather across all growing regions, including the Riverland, prompted the industry-wide review of saleable volumes.
Riverland-based ABA chief executive officer Tim Jackson said “ongoing and unprecedented” rainfall across the southern Murray-Darling Basin had hampered attempts to complete harvest, reducing crop potential.
“Getting access to orchards remains an ongoing issue, with some growers still trying to complete a harvest that is normally completed by mid-May at the very latest,” Mr Jackson said.
The new adjusted figure remains more than 14,000 tonnes higher than the 2021 record-sized crop.
