National almond conference in SA this week

OVER 500 almond growers, industry experts and business stakeholders will converge on the Adelaide Convention Centre for the National Australian Almond Conference this week.

The first day of presentations will take place on Tuesday, October 11, followed by a fala dinner, while a second day of presentations will kick off on Wednesday, October 12.

Usually held every two years, the conference hasn’t taken place since 2018 due to Covid-19, but is now back in business giving almond growers from across the country the opportunity to network, learn from a range of industry experts and peruse over 50 exhibitions.

World-renowned speakers from the US, David Doll and Patrick Brown, will lead a 50-strong list of speakers and panellists who will educate attendees over two days of presentations.

Almond Board of Australia chief executive officer, Tim Jackson, said the program contained a number of international speakers and was designed to assist growers do more with less.

“There is an expectation from consumers that growers produce food sustainably so the conference will showcase how our industry is meeting those expectations,” he said.

“Growers have been doing it tough with increased costs of production, 10-year low global pricing, heavy rain, hail damage and reduced beehive numbers, so it will be great opportunity to get together for the first time in four years and compare notes.

“We are a growing industry, so many of the new entrants will be experiencing a conference for the first time.”
