Scholarship chances for next gen wine leaders

APPLICATIONS for national wine scholarship programs designed for wine enthusiasts seeking to forge a career in the industry are now open.

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW supports the development of Australia’s wine industry and aspiring wine leaders, with its Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development and Sydney Royal Wine Study scholarships.

The scholarships are designed for those wanting to forge a career in the industry and caters to students studying at university, TAFE, or an online accredited institution, as well as wine professionals looking to further develop their skills.

Funded through the sale of excess wine from the KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show, the scholarships are a collaboration between the RAS wine committee and the RAS foundation.

RAS wine committee chair, Sally Evans, said the committee is proud to play a role in fostering talent in the industry and encourages all interested parties to apply.

“The KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Show exists not only to showcase the strength of Australian wines, but to help wine producers develop their products through benchmarking and evaluation to ultimately help our industry prosper,” she said.

“We are delighted that the show can serve an additional purpose by providing an opportunity to support and educate those who are passionate about Australian wine and driven to contribute to the success and growth of the industry.

“By investing in the next generation of winemakers, sommeliers, viticulturists, and communicators, we are investing in the future of Australian wine and its continued evolution.

“We are very proud that since 2013 Sydney Royal has provided over $150,000 in educational scholarships to a very diverse range of applicants.”

Both scholarship programs offer up to $6000 for full-time study, depending on the chosen courses. Options are also available for part-time study or short courses.

Multiple scholarships are available. Applications close on Monday, October 24.
